Wow, what a touching book. I want to read it! I really liked your suggestions of using this book to connect to social action and learning about the importance of healthy eating and even learning how to grow a garden - I think that can also show the importance of working together, just how you mentioned the book talks about the struggles of those who have cancer and how they work together with other family members and professionals to gain the support they need during their fight. As I was watching your Vlog, a thought popped in my head about another possible activity to relate to this book: writing letters and drawing pictures to kids whom are their same age, or even elders, who have some type of sickness and are either in the hospital or at home - students can learn compassion and ways to support other, especially during tough times.
